I liked this film. At the end I felt like it had seemed too objective and incoherent. But some context by a Godard expert put things in perspective. Godard was working out his personal ambiguities about the French-Algerian war. Also, Godard looked upon his films as attempts at films, as experiments. Why repeat what everyone else had been doing for 40 years. In that light, the film became something different. Once my expectations of how I should *feel* about a film changed, the experience of seeing Godard's film changed.
I like it.
I like it.

Sun, July 22, 2007 - 1:19 AMThe French government did not allow it to be distributed for about three years. It was very controversial in its time. It was his next film after Breathless. -

Fri, July 27, 2007 - 12:41 AMI haven't seen Breathless. But I suppose you could say the topic of La Petit soldat was not cute to the French censors (of 1960).
